When planning your garden leave room for plants that act as pest control and that will attract beneficial insects that will control pests and as attractants for the pollinators.
Not only do you get the pest control value from them but they add a beautiful splash of color to your gardens. I use diatomaceous earth a lot for natural pest control but these help and add some pretty color to the garden as well.
BORAGE – Works for cabbage worms
CATMINT – Works for Colorado potato beetles and squash bugs.
GARLIC – Can be planted sporadically and will work for Japanese beetles.
PEONIES – Works for grubs. It will attract grub eating bugs.
MARIGOLDS – Works for whitefly and many other pests
NasturtiumNasturtiumNASTURTIUM NASTURTIUM- Works for whiteflies, squash bugs and striped pumpkin beetles
SUNFLOWERS – Works for aphids and ants
You can also use plants to attract beneficial insects that will eat the bad bugs.
QUEEN ANNE’S LACE is a good one, also SAGE, THYME, BASIL and BEE BALM will work to attract beneficial insects.
