A Dairy Cow’s Birth Story

Here is a first look into a dairy cow’s birth story, join pure breed Jersey mother “Belle” and heifer calf “Camille” in their first moments. We all love to read about the interesting facts and the experience about a cow giving birth to calf because the miracle of new life on a homesteading is beautiful and full of hope.

Length gestation varies by age of female cow, breed, and sex of the calf. Gestation length ranges from 279 days to 287 days although for most breeds 283 days is a common average. In other words a cow is pregnant for 9 months.

Cows carrying bull calves tend to have a slightly longer gestation compared to cows carrying heifer (female) calves.

The Toups Address website was so kind to share their homesteading experience with the world, hopeful it will inspire others towards a more rural lifestyle.
