Better Than Char Cloth Fire Starter

What could be better than char cloth fire starter?  Steel wool is better. It catches very quick and easily and it burns hotter so you can even start a fire with damp tinder using it. It burns so hot it will dry the tinder out as it burns so you can still start a fire even  though your leaves or paper may be damp.

While you can make char cloth if you are out in the woods and need to make some the steel wool you will have to carry with you but it can be bought at a dollar store and is super light weight so carrying plenty should not be a problem. The Great Outdoor Gear Review shows you how to use it with a Ferro rod to get a fire going fast.

If you have been using char cloth you might want to give steel wool a try the next time you are out in the woods and need to build a fire. You may be glad you brought some along especially if everything is damp.
