If you’re a homesteader or survivalist, this is the perfect DIY project for you! This is inspired by a homesteader and to make it easier so you don’t need to design and construct the ax from scratch.

You will need:

• Ax

• Sawzall blade (roughly 2/3 the size of the ax overall)

• Drill, drill bits, bolt and nut (bolt should be about the width of the ax handle)

• Saw (handsaw or circular saw with a jig for safety)

Instructions:

• Begin by placing your ax in the jig, preferably blade down. This will make your blade fold out from the back portion of your ax. If you want it to fold out from the front, leave the ax blade up.

• Saw a groove into the center of the ax, the length of the blade and no more than ⅛” wide.

• Fit the saw into the groove, teeth in and note where the hole at the end of the blade is when inside.

• Remove the blade and use a drill bit to drill through the end of the ax where it lines up with the sawzall blade hole.

• Replace the blade, and secure it in place with a bolt and nut.

• Test the blade by pulling it out and pushing it back into place, then by using it to saw.

Congratulations, you now have a kickass ax-saw that even The Walking Dead couldn’t dream up.
