Pizza ovens are great and all, but they’re generally built into a wall and a pain to make. A lot of people rent their houses, but that doesn’t mean they don’t also want some nice things, like a pizza oven. But the idea of putting in that hard work and having to leave it there when or if you move out isn’t something that most people find pleasing. So what about a transportable pizza oven?

Using an exercise ball as a mold, you can create a top dome out of cement. Remember, your max door height into your dome should be approximately 63% of the height of the dome. If your door is too big, the heat escapes, but if it’s too small the top of the pizza will burn before the bottom’s done The best thing to do is to check out a few designs and make your own kind, because everyone is different and you can make your own measurements.

The bottom floor of the oven should be made with cement and firebricks, so the pizza has a good surface to cook on. It should be flat for obvious reasons. To make this, you’ll need to cut out a mold for it, meaning you’ll need to trace out some measurements for the top dome. Generally, you should do the outline of the bottom in cement, then fill it in after so you have a sturdy outline, filling in lower than the outline. Put the bricks in over it and make sure it’ll be good for a pizza, and you have the bottom done.

Once both of these are done, you’ll need to do detail work, cleaning up the molds and things like that. You’ll also need something for your pizza oven to stand on, whether you buy one or pave a block, or use cement blocks, just make sure it’s sturdy enough.

Depending on the concrete you use, you’ll probably have a fairly rocky shell, which is okay, that just means you’ll have to detail it. In this case, detail means make the outside appear more smooth, but try not to use too much water, as it’s still possible to smooth it out using a lot more arm strength. Just use some concrete that’s less rocky and cover it, remembering that, in this case, water’s the enemy.

So now you have a pizza oven, and don’t have to worry about leaving it behind. Time for some pizza!
