How To Make A Swedish Fire Torch aka Canadian Candle is a primitive skill that provides for heating, lighting, insect and predator deterrent, cooking and for a psychological sense of security in the wilderness.

Steps to building a Swedish fire torch:

  1. Dig a fire pit one and a half from around the log and encircle with large rocks. When the log burns down, use it as a foundation for a larger longer sustaining campfire.

  2. Find a large thick log “round” section dry wood and use a chainsaw to make multiple cuts into the round.

  3. Think of the slices into wood section like you are cutting up your favorite homemade pie.

  4. Leave about six inches of uncut wood towards the base of the log round to create a firm base.

  5. Stuff with paper, twigs, dry moss or grasses into the cuts then light nurturing the fire as it builds.

  6. The Swedish Fire Torch will burn for two to three hours.
