Paint Your Own Floor Cloths

Have you seen all the gorgeous painted floor cloths everyone is making? Some are done for frugal reasons and some are done to be unique or to perfectly match a rooms decor. Starting with heavy-duty canvas or cotton duck material but I have seen a couple were they were made much cheaper by using a painters tarp. Some are done by just laying the canvas out on the floor to paint it but others recommend tacking it to a piece of plywood to keep it still while you work. I think it would depend on the pattern and the weight of the canvas you decide to use whether you need to use the plywood or not but I think that would make it a lot easier. Basically you start with your material of preference and then wash and dry it to take care of any shrinkage you may have. then you would want to iron it to make painting easier. You can miter the corners if you want then paint or prime it with your choice of primer. Decor To Adore used artist gesso as their primer on the diamond painted one and Just About Home used white ceiling paint on their floral laundry room painted floor cloth. You can paint your design and then varnish or not as you prefer. The varnish does allow for a damp mopping once in a while. Many choices in materials and unlimited choices in patterns these painted floor cloths are all the rage right now at craft shows and much cheaper than buying large floor rugs and You can make them to match a mood or a room. I would love one painted black and then white-painted doilies all over it for a bedroom. Check out these tutorials and maybe you will be inspired to create you own painted floor cloths for your home.
