50 Gallon Barrel Wind Turbine

Neat diy project to build your own wind turbine from a 50 gallon barrel. A lot of folks are searching for ways to use the sun and wind to help with creating energy on the homestead. This project is very interesting in that it is super cheap to make and that you could also make it stronger by using a steel barrel instead of plastic. I think it would probably catch more wind if it was installed vertically or wind from more directions at least.

50 Gallon Barrel Wind Turbine

This project would be a great one to do with kids to teach them about wind power with some hands on experience. The video doesn’t say how much energy this barrel turbine produces but I believe that sanding the edges of the flaps to make them smooth would allow it to turn much easier and probably help to produce more energy. If nothing else this could be painted and would look pretty cool spinning. The video is from Shazizz and he explains all about how he made it. I warn you ahead of time to turn your sound down until the barrel part starts, his into will scare the heck out of you because it is loud.
