Amazing Birth of Quadruplet Calves

In 2012, an amazing birth of quadruplet calves occurred against all odds (1-in-180-million) getting the attention of Guinness Book of World Records. On December 6th, Zuppan dairy farm in Orland California was the home of these outstanding births to a 6 year old Holstein dairy cow.

The tests also revealed that there were three separate eggs within the mother heifer, and one of those eggs divided for monozygotic twins.   Meaning in simple terms: two of calves are identical twins, while the other two calves are fraternal.   Amazingly, all of the offspring were females (heifers), which puts the odds at 1 in 11 million.  John Zuppan said the Holstein calves will remain on the farm to be used for milking when they grow up.
