You can make your own furniture polish and leave the chemicals out. You can use any essential oil or oils you want.
I know everyone associates furniture polish with lemon and lemon oil does nourish the wood so you can use it instead of the eucalyptus or with it, just add 4 drops of each instead of 8. I like to use the eucalyptus because eucalyptus oil kills dust mites.
This is a super easy recipe and since you use jojoba oil it will not go rancid and you don’t have to throw it away.
If you have tons of wood to polish you can also double the amounts.
The things you need are.
1 cup of jojoba oil (you can use olive oil like you find in many recipes but it will go rancid after a while and jojoba doesn’t)
1 ounce beeswax (You can use a one ounce block or grate it or use pellets. The little block will melt and the wax is a little cheaper in this form.)
8 drops eucalyptus oil ( you can use lemon oil or other essential oils if you want. I like the eucalyptus because it kills dust mites.)
Something to stir with, it will have wax on it. I use a wooden chopstick and throw it away.
You can either make this in a small pan ( but then you have to clean the wax out of it) or the way I do it is to put my wax and oil in a heat proof jar in a saucepan of hot water, then turn the flame on the stove as low as it goes and stay with this till the wax has melted.
Once the wax has melted remove from heat stir in your essential oil and allow it to cool. I also stir a couple times as its cooling to keep everything blended. It will firm up as it cools. Thats it, you have your own homemade furniture polish, sans chemicals.
Just apply a small amount with a soft cloth rub in and then buff to shine. Make sure to wipe the dust or dirt off befor polishing the wood, you don’t want to polish it into the wood.
One more note, please test a small area of your wood before applying all over. If you have antique or super expensive furniture you may need an alternative polish. This one is great for regular furniture that we and our kids mess up, touch and live with everyday.
