Great idea from Elwood Lightfoot from the forum on Backyard chickens. He shares that using a minnow trap is the perfect way of catching snakes around the chicken coop. He had a lot of snakes. Ewww they make me shudder. I am so not a reptile person. If you are raising chickens you may wish to join the forum. Lots of good folks sharing good info.
