Book Review – Wildwood Wisdom by Ellsworth Jaeger

Ever wonder how people survived back in the 1800’s ? This book will tell you almost anything you could possible need to know to be able to survive like they did back then. The author learned so much from Indians willing to teach him. From the minute I got this book I thought the folks that view our page would love this.
So many have asked us if we have a book or tell us we should write a book. Well folks if we were to share with you all everything we have learned on this journey it would not compare to one chapter of this book.

Wildwood Wisdom2

This one will teach you everything you could ever need to survive in the wilderness. From building a shelter to foraging for wild food. Almost half the book is full illustrations so you can see exactly how to do the things he is telling about. I am enthralled with it and every time I can snatch it back from my husband who would move in and stay there if I let him, I find more to fascinate me. You can learn how to make moccasins and other clothing. Use an axe and make a sheath for it. How to build camp furnishing and a mud oven. How to build fires and make cooking utensils. Stalking and calling animals. Which plants are edible and which are poisonous. How to survive the winter and so so much more.  The book has 474 pages that are just chock full of survival information and Indian lore. As much info as we have shared in the last two years I have learned a lot from this book. Here is one thing I learned just to show you what I mean. Did you ever wonder how people that didn’t live near an ocean or salt flats salted their food? Well the book tells us the Indians would roll the leaves of the weed Colts-foot into little balls and sun dry them. Once dried they would burn them on a flat rock till only ashes were left. The ashes are very saline and so the would use the ashes to season their food. Now how cool is that. Folks I have to tell you if you are into outdoors, survivalism or history this is a can’t miss book. It was written in 1945 by Ellsworth Jaeger and is published by Shelter Publications and it should be in every prepper and survivalists library. If you would like a copy of the book I have added a link below.
