Breast feeding as a homesteading mother can have it’s challenges as well as many health benefits and rewards. Experienced mothers seem to know when there is a new mother who is struggling with all the demands of having a new infant. Don’t be fooled by the knowing looks because experienced mothers have been there as well and some still are.
One of the biggest challenges that any mother, new and experienced, can face is their ability to breastfeed their child. With new mothers, it’s the very newness of the situation. With experienced mothers, it could be their bodies have changed or it’s been a while since they’ve had to breastfeed a child.

However, the important part to remember in all of this is that it’s a learning (or re-learning) experience for a mother. Each baby is different as well with some needing more coaxing than others. While you and your newborn are learning each other, it’s so easy to become frustrated and believe you’re failing, but the only time you fail is when you give up entirely.
No matter what others tell you or how disheartened you feel, you should stick by your decision to breastfeed if that’s what you want for you and your newborn. If breastfeeding is your choice, your newborn will soon catch on and you’ll both be happier for it. Take some time to learn as much as you can and experiment with new positions and frequent feedings. You’ll get the hang out of it.
Ah, the joys of motherhood.
