I really like these and I think you could also add a small strip of wood on the side of each one and lay a board or boards across to hold a tv so you would have a tv stand with a bookcase on each side or put the boards a little higher and have a desk between the bookcases.

Either way all the ideas start with this great pair of bookcases from Infarrantly Creative who use a tweaked plan from Ana White who builds and has a plan for just about anything you can possible think of building when it comes to furniture. I like the dark stain she used on these but they would be nice painted white for a bedroom as well. The instructions sound fairly simple and it would save money and give you a much nicer bookcases than the laminate ones they sell in most stores.
