I had never made pear butter before finding this recipe  from Knit and Nosh but wowsers it is so good I will make some every year. It is made with brown sugar so it gets that lovely caramel flavor and color. It is good spread on hot biscuits and toast but it is really delicious when you add a spoon to your oatmeal or other hot breakfast cereal. I like to add it to my breakfast barley. Have you ever eaten barley for breakfast?

If you haven’t you should try it because it is really good. First toast it a little in your iron skillet then put it in a pan and cook according to the directions. The toasted is so much more flavorful than plain cooked, although I love the texture of it even without toasting. So nice and chewy. When you cook up some toasted barley and then stir in some salted caramel pear butter you are in for a breakfast treat that you will keep thinking about all day. It is so warm and filling and that salted caramel pear butter just takes it over the top.
