While some folks don’t like to clean their baking stone because it is supposed to build up a seasoned finish on it over time, they can start to look pretty gross after a while. Yes we know the stone is used in an oven and that heat kills germs. It is still hard to lay a perfectly clean pizza that you and your family will be eating on a stone that looks like it belongs with the other pavers outside in the walk way. I have heard of folks cleaning their cast iron this way as well. You do need to re-season cast iron afterwards. So if your baking stone is grossing you out, give this cleaning method a try, you may decide you like putting your pizza on it a whole lot more when it looks clean.
