Cool Season Crops For Early Spring Planting

Spring is just around the corner if it hasn’t made it to your house. Time to start checking the list of  cool season crops for early spring planting. Most of the crops on this list will pretty much be done and bolting by the time you begin to put out tomato plants. These are the first plants that can go into the ground, they love the cold weather and can mostly go in the ground just before your last frost.

Things like peas and spinach will do really well until it gets to summer temps and then they will quit producing so if you like these and want to grow your own, get them in the ground early. No need to start them indoors and transplant. In some places they have probably already started these crops and will have spring peas for Easter. I live in zone 5 so mine go into the ground a little bit later than folks down south. I will enjoy the peas when they do arrive though. Home grown peas are really delicious.
