This step by step tutorial of how to make tin cans (soup, coffee, paint) into simple beautiful lanterns that light up the night in delicate patterns. Use battery powered tiny plastic candles in clear or colored hues to create an inexpensive holiday decorations.

A candle with a flame, a battery operated votive candle or a solar powered candle are all options to create light for tin lanterns.  (Hint: don’t use a fire flame in the recycled paint can lantern)

This is great or outdoor mood lighting in the summer and an interesting Christmas garland in the winter.  For indoor Christmas garland, using color changing flameless LED votive candles would be beautiful and festive.
