We used to have apply brown Betty often when I was growing up. With this delicious homemade apple brown Betty recipe I think I will make it once in a while again.
This recipe is a really good one when you just want something simple. It is super inexpensive to make but is warm and a comfort food. It doesn’t take many ingredients. You only need bread or bread crumbs. Some apples, granny smith are the best for baking. Brown sugar, water and if you choose to add it, cinnamon. As a topping you can us whipped cream or my favorite pineapple sherbet or vanilla ice cream. Sometimes it is almost impossible to find pineapple sherbet but it is my favorite on apple brown Betty and bread pudding.
This recipe for apple brown Betty is from Homesteading Family and she makes it simple in one pan. My grandmother used to melt the butter add the cinnamon and brown sugar and then stir the bread crumbs in it to soak it up. Then she put the water, apples and cinnamon in another pan and heated them through. She then assembled it into the iron skillet for the oven. I like this way because it really cuts downs on the dishes to wash afterwards.
