One of the biggest challenges during survival situation is how to sterilize and disinfect your medical equipment. This article will educate you on how to keep your medical equipment and first aid kits sterile.

There is a big difference between being sterile and being clean even though people use them interchangeably. Being clean means being free of dirt and not being free of microbes but being sterile means being free of both dirt and microbes.

So, medical equipment should not just be clean, they should be sterile. However, sterilization may be a little difficult during survival situation. Here, you will learn up to 6 simple ways by which you can disinfect and sterilize your medical equipment.

According to the medical article, the very first way is to boil your medical equipment continuously for at least 30 minutes. This is because some microbes can survive a few minutes of boiling. However, this may not fully eliminate all bacteria spores. Besides, it may lead to rusting issues.

Even though heating your equipment in an oven to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes would have been a very effective sterilization method but you are not likely to have power during survival situation. This is why this method may not be practicable.
