If you are like me there are times when milk hits the expiration date before we can use it. I hate dumping it so I will usually make some cream of something soup and use it up or in winter I will make a big batch of hot chocolate and it gets used that way. I had tried freezing gallons of milk before that I caught on a good sale and hoped to stock up with but upon thawing no one would actually drink it because it has flecks of milk fat in it and looks unappealing.
Then I saw this idea from Creative Savings and now I will always freeze any milk that is getting close to the expiration date. She suggests not freezing a whole gallon but breaking it into smaller portions. I love what she uses to break it down with. Then when she needs some milk for cooking or smoothies she just pulls out the exact amount she needs from the freezer and leaves the rest in there until needed.
I don’t know why I never thought of this it is so simple and this way I could make soup or hot chocolate when I want to instead of when I need to. The best part is never dumping any milk again. That stuff is not cheap and after buying it an lugging it home I do not want to dump it down the drain.
