Survival Life website shares an article about taking your family on a backpacking trip to test their survival skills.

This can help find areas that need improvement in your families bug out bags or camping skills.
Basic navigation skills, shelter building, fire starting, wild food foraging, personal hygiene, cooking, finding water and first aid skills are all activities that your family could test themselves with.

I know this is common sense but please always tell at least two people where and when your family will be returning from your backpacking trip.

Be sure to check in with each person.
