Home Remedies Trapped Water In The Ear

Whether you’re swimming for fun or competitively, swimmers ear (water trapped in the ear) is always an uncomfortable experience. It really has a way of ruining the summer, not to mention the pain you will be in.

Swimmers ear is an infection that occurs in the outer ear due to moisture being trapped, causing inflammation. This can be extremely painful and it might even call for a trip to the doctor. However, it is not always possible to see a medical professional immediately, but luckily there are a few things that you can try at home in order to relieve the pain of swimmers ear.

How to relieve swimmers ear

Relieving swimmers ear can be done by using a few household products. Wellness Mama mentions that garlic works great for ear infections. A crushed clove of garlic can be placed in sterilized gauze, positioned on top of the ear and secured with medical tape.

Essential oils are also recommended to be placed around the ear, but never inside. This could result in a worsened case of infection. Hot packs may also be used in order to relieve pain.

How to prevent swimmers ear

Swimmers ear can of course be prevented. A simple solution would be to keep the ear dry at all times, especially after swimming and showering. Ear wax has also been known to keep bacteria at bay during the swimming months, so it would be a good idea to keep those cotton swabs away this summer.
