Hosta Montana – Known as Urui – Japanese Cooking – Foraging

It is funny how everyday we walk out of our homes and within a one mile acre there are at least 20 edible plants, herbs, vegetables and trees.

Shizuoka Gourmet  shares pictures from the store all the way to the dinner plate of  Hosta/ Urui.
Hosta shoots, leaves and flowers are edible.

The funny thing is a lot of 5 star restaurants use wild foraged food in their upscale dishes and people pay top dollar for their meals. They could be eating the same way in their own homes for pennies…. sort of funny, huh?

By learning how to safely identify  wild food sources – you can eat healthier, reduce your  monthly  food budget and add variety to your diet.

If your have a mind set of being prepared, turning your yard into a hidden edible landscaping can give you a more options in case of an economic collapse. Food will be more expensive and harder to come by. It also can get around city regulations & neighbor associations that try to control front yard gardening.
