How to Build Sturdy Garage Shelves Project

This step by step tutorial of how to build sturdy garage shelves project is a fabulous weekend do it yourself project. Nothing is a wonderful as strong built in floor to ceiling storage shelves to organize the extras of a busy family.

You can build a homemade set of wooden shelves inexpensively and that are far better quality.

It’s essential to plan out the design, compile the list of materials required, and to collect the necessary tools before you begin to build. You don’t know yet how frustrating it is to have to stop in the middle of your project because you are missing one small thing!
How to Build Sturdy Garage Shelves Project

You will need these tools:

Straight edge
Phillips head drill bit
Tape measure
Stud finder

These functional shelves will support a considerable amount of weight due to the construction design.

Materials needed:
2” x 4” x 8’ (8)
2” x 2” x 8’ (10 – for five shelves)
4’ x 8’ sheet of 3/4” plywood (5 – ripped length wise)
1 1/2” wood screws
2 1/2” wood screws
5” or 6” wood screws
optional: 1” x 2” x 8’ (2)

There are so many things that could fill those shelves such as tools, pet supplies, camping and sporting equipment, food and water storage (if your garage is at least semi heated), seasonal holiday decorations, craft supplies, clothing, linens and family keepsakes.
