How to Choose the Right Size Mattress

When you buy your first mattress, you might spend a little time considering which size is best. But after that? Many people just automatically replace their old mattress with another one the same size. Whether this is your first mattress or your tenth, you may be happier with your selection if you give the size a little thought. Here’s how to
choose the size that’s right for you.

Know the Mattress Dimensions

First, you need to know what your options are. You can choose whatever size you want at an online store like 1StopBedrooms. You can then meet your needs, both for size and price when you buy mattress for sale. Now, what about those sizes? Here are the typical dimensions for each size of mattress:

  • Twin – 39” x 75”
  • Twin XL – 39” x 80”
  • Full – 54” x 75”
  • Queen – 60” x 80”
  • Cal King – 72” x 84”
  • King – 76” x 80”

Count the Number of Sleepers

Counting the number of sleepers may be a little trickier than you think. Be sure to include everyone who will sleep together on the bed. That includes children and pets. And if guests sometimes sleep on the bed, consider them, too. For example, if you’re buying a bed for a guest bedroom, a twin bed might not be the best choice if couples often visit you.

Consider the Height and Weight of Sleepers

For sleepers to be comfortable, they need a bed that’s big enough for them to stretch a bit and sturdy enough to support their weight. If you’re buying a mattress for a heavier person, choose one that’s a little wider, and make sure it’s an innerspring or hybrid mattress. A California King at 84” is great for an exceptionally tall sleeper. And if you’re going to buy a twin mattress for a taller person, choose a Twin XL.

Think about Sleeping Positions and Habits

Do the people using the bed sleep curled up in a ball or stretched out to the limit? It matters when you’re purchasing a mattress. If the sleepers are prone to stretching out, a Queen or King Bed gives them more room to do it.

Don’t Forget Lifestyle Factors

Lifestyle has a bearing on all the furniture choices you make. For instance, if you like to watch TV in bed, you’ll probably want a larger mattress to spread out. If you prefer a cozy nest, you might be happy with a smaller mattress, like a Full size.

Make Sure It Fits in Your Room

You need a mattress that will fit all the sleepers who will use it. But don’t forget, it needs to work well in the room, too. Here are the ideal sizes of mattresses for each size of bedroom:

  • 7’ x 10’ to 9’ x 9’ room – Twin
  • 8’ x 10’ or bigger room – Twin XL
  • 9’ x 9.6’ or bigger – Full
  • 10’ x 10’ or bigger – Queen
  • 10’ x 12’ or bigger – Cal King
  • 13’ x 13’ or bigger – King

With all this information in mind, you can choose a mattress that fits whoever sleeps on it as well as the room where you put it. Before you buy the same old size of mattress, take a few minutes to consider your options.
