Knife Sheath Made from Dog Rawhide Bone DIY Project

For sheaths, rawhide is actually much better than leather for a number of reasons.

Most of us don’t have access to raw cattle, horse or buffalo hides, but the easier way is to buy a big cheap rawhide dog treat. You want it made with wide strips of rawhide, the biggest you can find. Soak the rawhide treat in water until it is soft and pliable. Wrap the wet rawhide in a cloth and let it sit until most of the moisture is out of the rawhide, but while it is still soft.

Materials and Tools:

Extra Large Rawhide Dog Bone

Nails

Heavy Duty Scissors

Pencil

Glue

Artificial Sinew or Heavy Thread

Leather Awl (Hole Punch)

Wide Mouth Mason Jar

Water

Masking Tape

Plastic Wrap
