In a society that has learned every modern convenience makes life easier, the most basic skills are not only being ignored, but not even passed down. Here are a few simple skills: learn to cook. And not noodles. Real food. It is simple to learn spaghetti, Hamburger Helper, simple meals that get one through the day. When shopping, make sure you know what the expiration date is.

Learn how to pick out fresh vegetables. Fresh fruit. If money is a problem, remember that simple meals can be made fairly cheaply, and can last for a bit. Cooking is an art that changes lives of the cook, and everybody around them in incredible ways. And with the internet, a thousand affordable recipes can learned. For free.

But also learn how to wash dishes. Dishwasher: nice. But doing it by hand makes sure it’s clean because it was cleaned by the one using it. And stressing this because there is an entire generation of young people that have never washed a dish, cleaned the toilet, mopped a floor. These are things that need to seriously considered, as well as laundry. If one has no idea how to do any of this, ask the parents. If it seems embarrassing to ask parents, ask people around you that actually do it.

In the end, actually knowing these skills and implementing will make so much easier, and people feel better after cleaning their dishes, mopping, cooking a decent meal and knowing that they are fully capable.

Teaching your children self sufficient skills is a priceless gift that will help generations to come. A person without skills is weak and is dependent on companies to take care of their basic needs therefore making them a enslaved to society.
