It’s about motorcycles that are easier to maintain so you feel more self-sufficient. A motorcycle is going to be cheaper with fuel, and hopefully will be one that is useful off road. It’s also easier to store and cheaper to purchase. You can scoot around blocked roads, and get easily through narrow paths on a bike.

There are a few things to be aware of when learning to ride. Your hands are going to be more integral to the motion than a typical steering purpose. The handles have a clutch and brake on either side. There are also rear ones.

You should start the bike in neutral. Use a sensitive hand on the starter button and release it immediately on hearing the engine. And you’ll need to release the clutch as the engine starts.

Driving requires up and down shifting so practice is going to make this intuitive, just like it will for the clutch catching. You should familiarize yourself with the dash and controls thoroughly. A bike has communication indicators such as lighting up the gear letters when you use the clutch.

Having a bike is not an absolute necessity for emergency preparedness but it is a useful vehicle to own and to be able to ride. It’s going to feel different than a car in responsiveness and with practice, anyone can learn to drive one.
