For some folks fall is the time of year they like to have at least one caramel apple because you see them everywhere when it is apple season. Well for folks with kids why not make black caramel apples for Halloween.
The kids are sure to love these Halloween color apples and making caramel apples is a fun thing to do with your kids. Baked By Rachel shares the recipe and instructions for making these and I love how she use a real stick for them instead of the usual stick. If your kids are having a Halloween party you could make a batch of black caramel apples and a second batch of orange caramel apples.
I think the two on a tray would look pretty neat. With caramel apples at least you know the kids are having some fresh fruit instead of just candy so it is a semi healthy treat. While I know most people are familiar with caramel apples or taffy apples my favorite has always been the Red Hot candy apples that were around when I was growing up.
Instead of a caramel or taffy coating they had a crisp crunchy candy coating that was made with red hots. So it was a candy with that yummy cinnamon flavor which goes super well with apples. You never really see them anymore but you can still make them homemade. Any way you prefer them candy coated apples are really tasty.
