Make Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments

This step by step tutorial of how to make salt dough Christmas tree ornaments is a hands on way to make create inexpensive yet extremely beautiful decorations. All family members will love gathering around the dinner table making a salt dough mixture into beautiful lacy snowflake ornaments using small cookie cutters.

Make Salt Dough Christmas Tree Ornaments

Just like a real snowflake in nature, no two salt dough ornaments are the same.

Each year, you can make it a holiday tradition to make these to give away to friends, co worker and neighbors can a way to spread holiday cheer. The salt dough recipe is quick and simple to make. Honestly, it is a lot like playing with play dough but when you are finished you get to bake it !

Full list of ingredients and tools you need:

1 cup flour (self-rising flour should not be used as it will cause the ornaments to bubble up while baking)
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water (or more as needed)
non-toxic acrylic varnish
Rolling pin
Cookie sheet
Cookie cutters
Acrylic paints
Paintbrush

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).

Combine the flour, salt and water; mix well and knead for 10 minutes. Roll out on a lightly floured surface.

Cut into desired shapes and make holes for hanging. Bake for 30 minutes; allow to cool.

Decorate with acrylic paints, spray paint and different colored glitters.

Allow to dry and spray with clear polyurethane on both sides to preserve. Use pretty ribbon or yarn pieces to hang.
