If you like the sweet tropical taste of Hawaiian sweet rolls you can make them at home with this recipe. At my house we love the Hawaiian rolls but I don’t buy them very often because its white bread and I try to only offer wheat bread and they are not exactly cheap but every so often I like to have them as a treat. They are sweet from sugar but they also have a tropical taste because you use pineapple juice when you make them. Handle The Heat shares a recipe for them that is delicious.
The thing we like them for and basically the only way we use them is to eat them with pimiento cheese spread on them. The pimiento cheese spread is salty from the cheese and it just goes really well with the sweetness of the Hawaiian rolls. It is like the perfect snack or we actually eat the cheese spread on the bread rolls as a lunch.
I make up a tray of the rolls and the pimiento spread and add pickles, olives and celery pieces (for filling with the cheese spread) and sometimes cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices and pretty much any sweet, sour or savory flavored items and we have a festival of flavors. It makes a great warm weather lunch. If you have never had pimiento cheese give it a try when you make these rolls. You can make Homemade Pimiento Cheese and if you like a combo of salty and sweet you will love it.
