Chicken bathe in dust rather than water and Darkbrownegglayers has an article telling us how to use both diatomaceous earth and wood ash to make chicken baths and then tells us the benefits of each. Seems the dust baths help to remove excess oil and helps to kill mites and other pests. I love the box, like a little sandbox for chickens.
