Making Moonshine Through Fermentation

This method of making moonshine through fermentation is broken down into the simplest of terms.

During the whiskey making process, two ingredients – yeast and sugar – are essential for fermentation to take place. It is important to understand that there will be no whiskey, no wine, and no beer if yeast is not involved.

Also, note that much of the taste and aroma of moonshine and whiskey results from the fermentation process. This underscores the need for choosing the right type of yeast, as it helps to make fine sipping rum, gin, vodka, moonshine and whiskey with the right flavor.

Your final fermentation result depends on your yeast selection. Carbon dioxide and ethanol (alcohol) are the two major byproducts obtained during fermentation. Yeast will always produce good results when it is being treated well and a good environment is provided for it to work in.

To properly ferment moonshine mash and get desired results, it is important you select a yeast that can effectively handle the amount of alcohol in the mash and ensure to ferment within the appropriate temperature range of your mash.
