Crocheting is an activity that many, many people have been newly discovering, while its roots have been around for centuries, not everyone gets it. For the people that do, it is both very relaxing and a way to fill up time when they are waiting for the time to pass. Another good reason is that it can be started, stopped and then picked back up again without missing a beat. This specific article is designed to introduce the reader to a pattern called Mandala Madness.

This gorgeous pattern was created by Helen Shrimpton and she graciously shares the pattern with anyone that would like to make one. The pattern and article are on Crystals and Crochet. Helen tells us “The word “Mandala” is from the ancient Sanskrit language. Loosely translated to mean “circle,” a Mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community.

Creating a group Mandala is a unifying experience in which people can express themselves individually within a unified structure.

There are many uses for a Mandala.
The design of the Mandala is supposed to be visually appealing so as to absorb the mind in such a way that irritating thoughts are unable to get through, like a form of meditation allowing the busy mind to take a break while the creative mind is allowed to run free.” This is a very unusual pattern and for those that like to give their crochet work as gifts, this is one that would be such a work of love that the receiver would probably feel very loved for being given such a treasure.

She also has a link to the crochet along group on Facebook where she tells us that the pattern was translated into 15 different languages for folks who don’t know English. I would love to see pictures in the comments on Facebook if anyone makes one of the beautiful blankets.
