Emergency PreparednessManual Toilet Flushing

Manual Toilet Flushing

Ever have your water pipes freeze? I have and the absolute worst was not being able to flush. Then someone told me about manual flushing. Well today I came accross this article explaining how to manual flush the toilet and since it is cold just about every where in this country at least I figured there may be someone out there that needs this info. Alpharubicon shares directions for how to manually flush you commode. Here is a tip I learned from that time to help prevent my water lines from freezing when it gets cold enough. Tie a piece of yarn around the water spigot in the kitchen or bathroom and cut it long enough to reach the drain. Then leave the water just barely on. Just enough so that a drip runs down the yarn pretty often. After I did this my water pipes never froze again. I guess if the water is moving at all it won’t freeze.
