These treats will delight your eyes as well as your taste buds. Let’s see exactly how to make them.
Step 1: Bake your Cupcakes
Once you’ve baked your cupcakes and iced them, you’re ready for the next step.
Step 2: Slice up Your Marshmallows
Cut your marshmallows in half using a sharp pair of scissors. If you’re using miniature marshmallows, one slice will do. If you have normal-sized marshmallows, take the halves and cut them diagonally. Regardless of the size, you will now have beautiful petals.
Step 3: The Sugar Dip
Take half a cup of sugar and pour it into a sealable plastic bag. Add in a few drops of coloured food gel (choosing your preferred colour or colours). Then seal the bag and prod, pound and shape the bag in your hands. Once the sugar crystals have an even colour, open the bag and toss in the marshmallows. Allow them to coat thoroughly in the colour mix. You can choose different colours at this stage so that each layer of your flower holds a new hue. The choice is yours.
Step 4: Build Your Flower
Start on the perimeter of your cupcake, applying each petal until the outer rim is full. Then do the next layer in. Repeat this process. If you have a small gap in the centre you can fill it with sugar pearls.
Step 5: Eat and Share
You’re done now, so it’s time to share your artistry with your family.
This technique adds 3d dimensions to cupcakes that copies the prettiest flowers in nature.
