Normally, we  (The Homestead Survival)  stay away from political websites because we are trying to create ways to bring people together rather than find differences that can cause drama among our loyal readers. The following article has NOTHING to do with politics but it is on a political website. It is an AMAZING ARTICLE and it needs to be shared not only for it’s glimpse into history but to provoke a comprehension of the vastly different levels of educations from current day classrooms to classrooms of a 100 years ago.

The American Dream website shares an interesting article that shows a recently donated eighth grade exam from 1912 to the Bullitt County History Museum In Kentucky.

I have to say that the full list of questions in the different categories is quite impressive. These were the questions to children of homesteaders.

  • Arithmetic

  • Grammar

  • Geography

  • Physiology

  • Civil Government

  • History

  • Reading and Writing was given orally from the teacher

Honestly, Pat & Memphis that create the articles here on The Homestead Survival are often grammar challenged.
No, we are far from perfect !
