If you are off grid or planning to go off grid you may be thinking about a well for your water needs. Having a well is a great idea but you should also be thinking about a manual well pump. Most folks that are going or have gone off grid are of the thought that sooner or later there will be a social or economic break down of some sort and are trying to have a safe place where they can survive without being dependent of services from anyone.

While having your own well is a good step to that independence, you also need to think about the fact that if your well pump runs off of electricity, then if it goes so goes the water. If you are going to depend on your well for water you may want to think about a manual well pump. That way if your electric pump can’t bring up the water, you can still pump it up by hand.
