If you live where the power goes out often and even if you don’t have power outages often but only once in a while, having a kit ready for it will help a lot when it happens. If you create your kit in a tote or plastic box then everything you will need will be in one place and you will know exactly where everything is. I need to make my own power outage kit.
I know the last time we lost power it was in the evening and the flashlight I knew where to find had dead batteries so it was a lot of fumbling around in the dark to find candles and matches so I could have light to find and then change the batteries in the flash.
So much easier if all of these items had been in a box like under the bed or on a closet shelf. Modern Survival shares a couple of lists of items that should be in your power outage kit. He even has a radio in his and extra batteries. I could have laid hands on a battery operated radio in that last outage because I don’t even own one. So I am going to make my power outage kit and by a radio for it and next time the power goes I will know exactly how and where to get some light.
