Raising Pigs For Meat Questions Answered

You can take a couple of dozen chicks and raise them for 3 or 4  months and then butcher and freeze them. So you would have 24 frozen chickens after less than 5 months of feeding them. but you may want a little more variety in meat than just chicken. Raising a cow for beef will be a lot more expensive. The baby cow will cost quite a bit, need a lot of space and you will need to feed it for a year before butchering.

So then you can raise rabbits which is not super expensive and can add to the variety but there are also pigs. Becky from Becky’s Homestead answers her viewers questions as she explains what it takes and how long it takes to raise a pig for meat. She only raises her pig to around 300 pounds which doesn’t take too long although you can keep a hog for a few years before butchering as long as the butcher is willing or you will be doing your own butchering and they could be double that size.
