Simple Corn Dog Recipe and Cast Iron Corn Pan

Homemade corn dogs are delicious, but they may not be exactly like those you’ve tried at the fair. But you can get really close to the authentic corn dog. Look through the ingredients and instructions listed below. There are pictures as well.
Ingredients:
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup white sugar
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 – 2 packages Hot Dogs (your choice)
16 wooden skewers (if you like your corn dogs on a stick – insert once baked)
Optional: Mince green onions, jalapeno and grated sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions:
In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, sugar and baking powder. Stir in eggs and milk.
Preheat oven to 425
Grease a cast iron corn pan with vegetable oil
Pour cornbread mixture into each corn shaped opening 1/2 way
Slice each hot dog lenth way almost in half so the meat can be thoroughly warmed.
Place one sliced hot dog in each corn shaped pan opening.
Add enough cornbread mixture on top to hide the hot dog.
Place in the oven and bake 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly golden and springy to the touch.
Remove the hot pans from the oven and brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons melted butter.
It begins with the hot dogs. It might be beef or turkey. The best type for corn dogs isn’t a mystery. It’s whichever you like. Slicing the hot dogs into the right shape may be a challenge. There’s advice on that in the upcoming sections.
