Preventive maintenance is crucial to not being caught unaware. One tip not mentioned is changing the furnace filter. We wash ours because we have an electrostatic filter but if you have a disposable furnace filter spring is a good time to change it for a new one. That way when you start running the air conditioner it will be a fresh clean air filter.
