Finding yourself stuck in your car after an accident is frightening but being prepared with the right supplies can make all the difference.

I was traveling with a friend  to a small town 40 miles from my home on a cold winter morning.
As we came around a corner, I had to swerve to avoid hitting another car that had just been in a roll over single car accident due to icy roads.
There was one adult woman waving her arms and two young girls crying beside the car.

I pulled over and we were able to get them away from the vehicle, put out warning marker and alert another driver to call the police as soon as he could get into cell phone range.

I can tell you it is not easy to deal with strangers that have an overflow of adrenaline.
Beware people will not be thinking clearly and their behavior may not have safety in mind.
You may have to gently direct them.

My friend had been an EMT responder for ten years and able to talk with the children and find out which one had been injured. The youngest child was later taken by ambulance to be evaluated.

Thankfully a police officer who knew the family & works with the husband of the woman in the accident came to the scene and took over.

I was extremely grateful for his calm manner and proper training.

You never know when you or a stranger may need help. This experience changed my view, I never leave home without having emergency supplies in my vehicle.
