Sugar Cookies Prize Winning Vintage Recipe - The Homestead Survival - Baking

Ingredients:

1 cup white sugar

1 cup light brown sugar

1 cup shortening

3 well-beaten eggs

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon soda

1 cup sour milk or buttermilk

Directions:

1. Cream (mix) sugars and shortening.

2. Add beaten eggs.

3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt and add alternately with soda which has been dissolved in milk.

4. Add vanilla.

5. Chill thoroughly.

6. Roll out and cut cookies about three inches in diameter.

7. Bake in a moderately hot oven (400 degrees) until lightly browned.

8. Sugar may be sprinkled on cookies before baking.
