Do you eat tilapia? I used to because I really like that it was very easy to cook and it didn’t have a strong fishy taste and I could find it on sale some times. Then I read that it has a lot of cholesterol and started only serving it once a month or so. I thought we are supposed to eat fish for the omega 3 in it but not saturated fats ro a lot of cholesterol so I was okay with making tilapia once a month for dinner. Then I saw this article from Eat Local Grown and I guess I will be dropping tilapia from our table totally because it seems almost all of it is farm raised and instead of eating algae and lake plants they are fed gmo grains, both gmo corn and gmo soy.
I don’t want to eat either of those nor serve them to my family. Even if there were health benefits from eating fish which guess what? According to the article, talking about the farmed fish, ” The amount of healthful fish oils in these creatures is almost non-existent, negating the main reason why fish is so good for us.” It seems eating farmed tilapia can cause inflammation. Also the fish contain high cancer causing pollutants, pesticides and antibiotics and high dioxins. So I think it is time for my family to say good bye to tilapia, at least unless and untill I see some that says it is wild caught and not farm raised.
