Trimming a Homesteading Chicken Nails Tutorial

This step by step tutorial of the trimming of a homesteading chicken nails

Just as a dog or cat will occasionally need its nails trimmed, you will find your chickens will occasionally need their nails trimmed as well. Though this may sound like a intimidating task, it is quite simple once it is clearly outlined the procedures.

Chickens that are active and healthy will spend a lot of time scratching in the dirt which actually naturally wears down their nails. Chickens that have long overgrown nails will have trouble in their ability to walk and eventually their health.

It is especially important to keep a rooster’s nails trimmed because during the mating of a hen – a rooster can seriously injury a hen with his sharp nails.
