Turn a used crib mattress into a dog bed following this tutorial. Buying a pet bed is expensive, even little ones are not cheap. Crib mattresses on the other hand you can find cheap and even free sometimes. Then is you have a couple of yards of fabric (an old sheet or blanket) or if you would rather buy new fabric to get a certain color or print you will have everything you need to make a nice yet cheap bed for one and maybe a couple of pets.

I like the way the cover for the mattress is put on without even needing a sewing machine. It is removable for washing and the print that was used on this one with the dog bones is just perfect for a dog bed. You can read all the instructions on Sarah On The Blog. She made this one and it is perfect for her two pups.
I think this would be good for cats as well and because it is bigger than a regular pet bed it is a great idea for a large dog or folks that have multiples. They can all sleep together and be comfortable. Nice re-purpose.
