For an inexpensive way to hang curtains use pvc pipe as curtain rods. You can color pvc pipe to fit your decor and buying pvc and painting it your self is much cheaper than buying curtain rods, especially for wide windows. This idea can really save money when you have a lot of big wide windows to cover. You can even do this for you patio doors. Just  put up a couple of more hangers to provide a bit more support for the pvc.  This is also a great way to make matching curtain rods when you have a variety of different window sizes.

If you have small windows go ahead and take the curtains up to almost the ceiling and wider than the window to create the illusion of a much larger window and make the room look bigger than it is . This idea is from 7 Layer Studio and it is one of those why didn’t I think of that ideas. Making your own curtain rods when moving into a new house could save you hundreds of dollars because they are not inexpensive to buy.

I like that you can make them any color you like because then you can have the same curtain rods through out the house just in different colors to go in each room. It would look as if you have custom made curtain rods for your whole house.
