One, you can grow your own fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Plant your own vegetable garden and harvest your own seeds with square foot gardening techniques in order to grow a lot in very small spaces. Just use your backyard. Then, there is the collecting natural resources that can be used again such as buying wooden logs and splitting them yourself. It will save money since split wood is more expensive but instant to use for heating. Then, there is collecting rainwater to use for your garden or being filtered clean before using it to cook food and even drink it. Finally, there is the sun, which can provide instant energy with the installation of solar panels.

Regardless of where you live, you can raise livestock, even small ones like bunnies, chickens, and dogs. Those with bigger yard could also raise some goats and bees. Chickens and ducks can provide eggs, meat, and manure for the garden; goats and cows can provide milk, and bees make the honey. There is also the meat we can east and the wool from sheep that can converted to spin, knit, and crochet into clothes.
